Bell Is Mightier Than The Bomb!

"One time Prabhupada was saying that the 'BELL' of the priest in the temple, when he performs the arati ceremony ringing the bell, that bell is more powerful than the nuclear weapon...the atomic bomb, because the bomb will blow up people's bodies and destroy vegetation and will make a hole in the ground and everything. But the bomb doesn't change spiritually, the situation that's happening with any of those souls, with any of those spiritual beings! Again they still have to take birth. But someone hearing of the 'BELL' that's being offered to Krishna, then what to speak of the kirtan (we just performed), that's destroying so much karma and that can actually purify ones consciousness,as we're said to have a transcendental consciousness which is capable of remembering Krishna!"

Three Modes Of Nature

Srila Prabhupada has described at different times the three modes of nature as corresponding to different colors. Goodness is compared to yellow, passion to red and ignorance compared to blue. When we take these colors and mix them in different proportions we can make different color combinations. Three multi plied by three makes nine and nine multiplied by nine makes eighty‑one. It can go further and further in subtle combinations of the material modes that affect any particular soul trapped in this material world. Therefore at times we find someone whose modes basically agree with us but there will be always some differences due to different subtle combinations of shades of the material modes, which cause different bodies, characters, situa tions etc, within the material world.

Everything Auspicious Comes To You

Every vibration is stored in the atmosphere be it material or spiritual. So creating a spiritual vibrations is very important. Devotees think, how to glorify Lord, where to go and preach, how can I serve Srila Prabhupada - then these vibrations stay in atmosphere, thus cleaning the atmosphere around the devotees and temple. If you are engaged in thinking auspicious things and about Krishna, everything auspicious comes to you.

love is the basis

"A musician, because one has got a good attachment for music, he tries to perform it very perfectly. So love is the basis. Similarly, when you serve Krishna, if you have no love for Krishna, you cannot serve Him very nicely. And Krishna also does not accept your service if it is not done in great love and affection."

fish on the land

At the present moment people are suffering. Not at the present moment–always. Anyone who is in this material world, he is full of anxieties, because material wants cannot be satisfied at any time. It will simply increase. So unless one comes to God consciousness understanding, there is no possibility of satisfying.
...So that is called bhakti-yoga, and we are teaching and propagating this bhakti-yoga. People are disturbed in so many ways in this age of Kali. To give them real satisfaction of life is to awaken them to the platform of God consciousness. So the simple method is chanting the holy name of God. We are chanting Hare Krsna. Hare Krsna means addressing the energy of God, ...
...Just like you take the fish on the land. Because land is not the place for the fish, however you try to make him comfortable, he will never be comfortable. You throw him in the water–he is comfortable. Similarly, we are spirit. We are now encaged within this material body. Dehino ’smin yatha dehe kaumaram yauvanam jara. So our business should be how to get out of this material energy and put ourself under the spiritual energy. Then our life will be fully satisfied.

Sugarcane

We came back from town through sugarcane fields. Srila Prabhupada said, "Pull over here. Go and pick that tall sugarcane." We picked that sugarcane, which was about ten feet tall, and when we got back to the temple, Srila Prabhupada changed from his dhoti into a gumsha. On one page of one of the Vyasa-puja books, there are four small pictures os Srila Prabhupada sitting on a big plantation chair eating sugarcane. What you can't see in the picture is that we're all sitting at his lotus feet. He said, "If you're trying to enjoy in the material world, it's like chewing the chewed. After the juice has been sucked out of the sugarcane, there is nothing left, there is no sweetness." However, after Srila Prabhupada chewed the sugarcane and discarded it, we scrambled for it and found that it was still sweet. We wondered about Prabhupada's sugar cane analogy, but we concluded that becuse the sugarcane was coming from Srila Prabhupada's lotus lips, its sweetness had become magnified. Prabhupada was just like a little boy happily chewing sugarcane, and we all got special mercy.

Language Not a Barrier

Prabhupada was on the vyasasana about to lecture, and there was a group of ten or twelve devotees sitting near him. I was sitting under a corner of the vyasasana. Hansaduta and Yasodanandana were also there. When Prabhupada started to speak in Hindi, a whole bunch of devotees got up to leave. Prabhupada stopped speaking. He looked at us and said in English, ''This is for you as well. Where are you going? Stop. You should all stay here and listen.'' The devotees thought that they could walk away from Prabhupada's lecture since they didn't understand the language. But Prabhupada didn't like that at all. He wanted everybody to sit and listen because whether we understood it or not, it was purifying for us. Afterwards he said, ''You devotees don't understand the potency of this preaching. It is what is going to purify your hearts. You'll become Krishna conscious by hearing even if you don't understand, not by wandering around.

Ten Hands

Prabhupada: Everything is theory. No practical. [break] ...ten direction. Eight direction, corner, and northeast, east-west, and up and down. So everywhere He is present. So Krsna has got ten hands. So my father used to say, "When Krsna takes your money or possession in ten hands, how you can protect it with two hands? And when He give you in ten hands, how much you can take in two hands?" (laughs) So in my case it has become practical. Everything He has taken in ten hands, and now He is giving in ten hands. (laughter) I am practically experiencing. My Guru Maharaja ordered me, "You do this." I was trying to save my business, my family, with two hands, and Krsna took it in ten hands. And now, after making me beggar, He is giving me, ten hands: "You take as much as you like." Now I am thinking of my father's instruction. [break] ...ambition was that I become a great de... bhagavata. That was his... He used to invite so many saintly persons, and he would pray, "Please bless my son" -- I was very pet son -- "that he may become a devotee of Radharani. Radharani may bless him." That was his only prayer.
